I'm in full blown goal setting mode for 2017. I gave up on resolutions a long time ago and now set my focus strictly on goals! I always start my goal setting process by reflecting on what is currently giving me energy in my life. Huh, you may ask, energy? Yes, energy. What lights my fire, gets me excited, or makes me want to jump out of bed in the morning and get a start on my day. Once I get a few ideas in my head or on paper, I reflect on the last time I experienced each of these things. Then I capture, in vivid detail, exactly how amazing and energized I felt before, during and after the experience.
At this point you might be asking yourself why I start with focusing on energy. For me it is simple. We all have a finite amount of energy. I believe that it is very important to spend more of it on things we love and find ways to do less of those things that sap our energy. I like doing this exercise before setting my goals because it helps 1) focus my awareness on what is getting me excited, which leads me to areas that I want to be spending my time; and 2) let's be honest, moving goals forward can be hard work some of the time which is all the more reason to be clear what can give you an energy boost so you can tap into it when your energy is low.
I put together this handy worksheet for you to go through this process yourself. Hope it helps you start you goal setting for 2017! Share below what's giving you energy right now and what ideas you have for getting more of it in your life! Next week I'll be sharing some thoughts on how to set up your goals so you can be very clear on what you want, so be sure to stop back by.
